Time to buy a cow

August 11th, 2007 at 02:55 am

Milk prices are going up again, averaging $3.80 a gallon now. This hurts for us because we buy a gallon a week. Fortunately we don't spend $3.80 a gallon, but we've noticed the prices rising.

I'm going to have to start doing what an old coworker used to do, pour Mountain Dew into his Cocoa Puffs.

I pay that for a 1/2 gallon of milk here in Quebec.

We have been paying at least that here in Texas for awhile now...and we go thru 3 gallons a week.

A gallon of milk is $4.69 at the local supermarket as of last Monday. Gasoline is $2.69 a gallon.

I've switched to instant non-fat dry milk for some cooking.

Do you have a BJ's or Costco close to you? They are normally alot cheaper than the other stores. You can always buy up and freeze it if you do it right and take some of the milk out of the container so that it has room to expand.

It's at about $3 a gallon here in the Northwest as of last week. What I do is buy a gallon of whole milk and mix up non-fat dry milk and combine them to make 2 gallons. You can't taste the difference, especially when it's mixed! My husband is very picky about how his milk tastes and he didn't even notice. Smile

It is 3.86 for a gallon of 1% here in the Midwest. I am going to buy the packs of powdered milk from Walmart and try to supplement the fresh milk with it. A little experiment.
